Whatever anyone else may glean from these writings, I do get that I am to be my own best student. Meaning, although they come through me, I am still a student of the true source of these teachings. It is a clear case of 'one teaches best what one needs most to learn'.... and my ego is trying its best to do just that. Of course, it's a trap that neither you nor I can ever escape--- God created it that way--- that when I am He that is Awake, the I that is learning and being holy... that I.... he does not exist.
Here is the truth. Only the ego can see the ego. Whenever anyone is authentically not being an ego, ego--- for them--- no longer exists anywhere. This is why the Course repeats many times the teaching that to truly see another it is impossible to be judging them. That we must be about seeing each other as God sees--- seeing only our oneness with God and each of us. And this is why the spiritual journey is like turning an inner tube inside out... it just boggles the I, the thinker....right into non-existence. Yet something sees, something knows, something immense and infinitely powerful and still.... exists.
But not as an 'I'.
Adyashanti teaches that most of us, whenever we fall into any state like this, that we scurry as quickly as possible back to the realms that we are familiar and comfortable with. But the real journey is the one that goes ever deeper into the completely unknown unknowableness. Another way to say that is: we disappear into the Light.
Yet all of this is grace-driven, and incremental, so as to allow us to learn in 'time'. Our inner holy friend knows us so much better than we know ourselves, for mostly, we only know ourselves via our identity-sense driven ego. As the Course teaches, our inner holy friend recognizes this, but also knows who we actually are.
Who we all actually are is a spirit-in-body with a dharma, a mission, a holy intention, a calling, a job to do for God and for life. And no one but us can do our particular part. Somehow I know that writing these Commentaries is a part of my particular part, and I know that whoever reads these words will recognize this, and that this is a part of their readiness curriculum. That means I am being used to serve, even when I am still just a student. That means you are likewise in service also, as God directs us both. Is there any reason, if your soul knows this is so, for any of us to keep breathing life into old ways that do not serve? I can think of no true reason, excepting that there is still a lesson there unlearned. If that is so, let us be about learning that unlearned lesson.... let us ask for the wisdom to see it, and strength to face it, and the will to embrace it.
That done, let us release our concerns about our unripeness back to our Pure Beginnings, and in peace, choose to happily serve however we are guided, as the Way is opened before us.
Namaste,
David
